The advent of the personal compute brought a practical computing solution to the masses. Over time computers became even more personal and portable with the release of notebooks or laptops as some say. Until recent times, PCs and notebooks have been sufficient for the consumers needs. Enter the “netbook”.
Netbooks are, in essence, almost completely stripped down notebook computers. Netbooks come without CD/DVD-ROM drives and isntead are outfitted with USB, FireWire, SD Card, and video cable ports. While some netbooks carry just as much, if not more RAM and hard drive space than notebooks others are only outfitted with 512MB RAM and 80GB hard drives. Still, this is a small concession to make considering that the price of netbooks is significantly lower than that of notebooks and post PCs. The netbook pictured here costs only $339.
Netbooks are perfect for the person with who has basic computing needs. Netbooks are perfect for the user who does word processing, internet browsing. Netbooks can accomodate a fair amount of pictures and music as well, depending on size and computing power. It is not advised to use netbooks to do extensive work with media such as photo and video embellishing and editing.
Netbooks are also perfectly fit into the lifestyle of the person who is frequently “on the go”. Their size (usually no more than a 9″ screen and a weight of 4lbs.) lends itself to easy transport and portable use. Many people are using netbooks as “remote” computers to use when they are out of town on business, or are on vacation.
Because of nice design, computing power, practicality, and price the netbook earns itself a 10/10. With excellent portability, user capabilites, and a barebones system (which allows the user to focus rather than be distracted by various other programs or games) the netbook recieves a lifestyle integration value of 10/10 giving the netbook a total Techsplosive score of:
