12Seconds.tv = YouTube + Twitter.

by Techsplosive on February 24, 2009

12Seconds.tv is not anything new to anyone who even remotely follows technology, social media, and applications.  12seconds.tv is basically a twitter for videos.  Videos posted by users are only 12 seconds long (hence the name) and are shared to all friends and followers.

12seconds success to date has been decent.  Their current Alexa ranking is much higher (worse) than most other social networkinga and media websites.  12seconds rates about a 100,000 on the Alexa scale, finding itself outranked by many blogs, and some relatively undeveloped websites.  With Twitter number 360, 12seconds.tv has some serious ground to make up.  Alexa ranking doesn’t mean everything though, but there really is not much else to highlight about the website.  Sure, it was a creative idea and has had some success, but llacks the main feature of pracitcality and simple lifestyle integration.

Twitter is popular because text is easy.  Tweets often take less than 5 seconds to read, and can be responded to just as easily.  It is practical, usable, and easily integrated into the user’s lifestyle with a computer or any cellphone.  12seconds requires some sort of video recording software, and videos are not viewable on all gadgets.  YouTube is popular not only because of the volume of content, but also because of the quality of the content.  YouTube videos are complete.  12seconds might have quality content, but only 12seconds may leave many users wanting for more.  While the creators of 12seconds do deserve recognition for their innovation and creative thinking, they may want to continue thinking and developing a more practical and integral platform before we see it go mainstream.

Some other interesting stuff...
