Online Shopping

by Techsplosive on February 8, 2009

Around Christmas time, many middle aged adults talk about the fond memories they have of looking and searching through the Sears and Reobuck Christmas Catalog.  While some big department stores still put out the big Christmas editions, many have traded in the catalogs for websites and online stores.  Online stores have provided a practical solution for companies looking to expand their reach, without having to mail 200 page catalogs to every household in the nation.

Almost any product or service a person can think of can be ordered on the internet.  Pizza chains like Dominoes and Papa Johns have even started selling their pizzas for takeout on the internet.  Online stores include small home businesses selling personal greeting cards, to the big box stores like Target and Macy*s.  Along with those, are the internet only megastores like Amazon.com, Overstock.com, and Buy.com.  These stores make it ultra convenient for the Christmas wish listers as well.  Rather than sit around and copy down the items from a catalog, kids can now add items to their Christmas or birthday wish list at the click of a button.

Online shopping is a large component of a more efficient lifestyle.  Shopping on the internet can save a lot of time, and hassle.  Price comparisons can be performed instantly, and product reviews are easy to find.  There are never any lines to wait in.  The main drawback is shipping, but if the buyer has the means, most products can be shipped overnight.  Many people don’t realize how much time they waste running around from store to store.  Online shopping can even help people aviod regular trips to the grocery store.  Services like Peapod allow customers to fill their virtual shopping cart, and then deliver the groceries at the specified time.  The main thing holding many back from shopping online are the questions about credit card and bank account security.  As a general rule, the well known websites like Amazon.com and Buy.com are “fully” secure.  When shopping at smaller online retailers, look for the reviews of other customers to make sure that they received their items and had an overall positive experience.

For instant product views, one click shopping, and awesome wish lists online shopping nabs a 10/10.  For exceptional time savings, possible money savings, and an almost complete reduction of the shopping hassle – which allows for more overall productivity online shopping earns another 10/10 bringing the total Techsplosive score to:

Nice article!! Online shopping can be a great way of finding bargains, or picking up some cheap product or specification that isn’t available in the shopping mall.
