Podcasts

The release of the iPod and other digital audio products spawned an uprising of home radio broadcasters (podcasters) much like blogging spawned a new generation of journalistic and topical experts.  In simple terms, a podcast is a regular audio or mutimedia recording that is syndicated and distributed over the internet.

Most podcasts are free and offer great information.  Podcasts can be found on any topic from Acting and Modeling Tips to How to Speak Russian.  The most popular, and organized place to find podcasts is through iTunes.  Some podcasters have already made a name for themselves through books they have written, or TV and radio shows that they have hosted.  However, the vast majority of podcasters are “regular” who are experts on a particular topic.

Podcasts are easily integrated into any lifestyle.  Podcasts allow the listener to listen to great information and advice portably, provided they have an iPod or other media player.  For those who do not have these gadgets, podcasts can be listened to via a desktop or laptop computer.  While the information provided by the podcasts is often helpful and informative, the listener should be careful to not get overly engrossed with the podcasts so that work or other performance is hindered.    Like all good things, podcasts should be enjoyed in moderation.   In addition to being portable, podcasts can also save listeners a lot of time.  Most podcasts are relatively short (less than 20 minutes) and contain concise and to the point information, where as most books contain their fair share of fluff.

For their low cost (free), high grade content, and a plethora of options podcasts earn a 10/10.  For their portability, and time saving ability podcasts turn out a lifestyle integration score of 10/10 bringing the Techsplosive score to:
