Technology for the Outsourced Lifestyle

by Techsplosive on February 16, 2009

Over the past few years that has been an increased number of people attempting to start their own business and build it into a passive income stream via outsourcing.  This recent push is no doubt due to books and testimonials such as Tim Ferriss’s “Four Hour Workweek“. Mr. Ferriss offers many different tech solutions, website resources, and company referrals for the outsourcer to consider, and so there is no reason to highlight those once again here.  Instead, the focus here will be on the pieces of technology and gadgets you may want to invest in if you live an outsourced and presumably mobile lifestyle.

The NetBook. Netbooks are basically a miniature version of notebook computers (more commonly known as laptops).  The NetBook’s small size and basic features allow for super portability, and integrated features such as the Verizon Broadband Network allow the user to have internet access almost anywhere.

The SmartPhone. If you have a smartphone, it is debateable whether a computer is even necessary.  In addition to having basic phone call capabilities, the user is able to access and send email as well as browse the internet.  Any pressing computer needs can be handled at home, or if you are traveling these can be handled via internet cafes (or that work can simply be outsourced as well…).  Soon enough, there will be little that the smart phone is not capable of doing.

The iPod. While you are relaxing and letting your people handle most things for you, why not take the chance to relax and listen to music, learn more by listening to books, or get engrossed in a podcast?

These three devices are by no means the essentials of an outsourced lifestyle, but they sure would make it a bit more fun.  However, if you are the proud owner of an iPhone, I suppose that none of these suggestions need apply.

Some other interesting stuff...

I don’t like outsourcing that much. I’m a firm believer of the saying “If you want something done right, do it yourself” (Or something like that.)

Unfortunately this causes me to try and do everything myself which ends up wasting hours of my (ever so valuable) time.
