Web Comics

by Techsplosive on March 4, 2009

Comics have become a part of the daily lives of many people.  Like most of the things that are findable content-wise on the internet, comics also found their initial success in print media.  The growing popularity of the internet brough many of us users to realize that not only can clever artists create comics, but clever graphic designers and flash developers can as well.

While some web comics are more niche focused, and resonate with smaller particular audiences, some have hit the big time and have turned into sustainable businesses (think homestarrunner.com).  Despite the varying success of the plethora of web comics on the internet, web comic publishers are here to stay.  Just as it is with syndicated and printed comics, web comics are also the expression of the publisher.  For the artistic person, publishing a web comic could be great way to unleash and uncover hidden creativity.  Web comics also allow a great degree of collaboration.  Some people are just naturally clever, yet lack necessary flash development or graphic design skills.  Likewise, the visual artist may lack the cleverness and word control – but have uber-art and design capabilities.

Reading web comics is an absolutely delightful way to spend a few hours if you have a few hours to blow.  For the busy-body, web comics are a complete time sucker.  For the smart and timely clock manager, a few well selected web comics can provide a certain “pick-me-up” during the daily lull.
