10 Online Resources for the Young Entrepreneur

by Techsplosive on March 17, 2009

I read an article recently about how the current economic recession has created a new wave entrepreneurship.  While most notable entrepreneurship takes place among those who have a little bit more life experience (a nice way of saying they are older), there has been quite a revolution in entrepreneurship in the 14 – 22 year old crowd.  I fancy myself to be a bit of an entrepreneur, and as a result want to share my top 10 resources for all of the young and aspiring entrepreneurs who might be reading.

RetireAt21.comRetire at 21 is a blog devoted to sharing advice and success skills to young and aspiring entrepreneurs.  Retire at 21 founder Michael Dunlop has had a bit of succes in his personal ventures, and has made it a point to share his success and knowledge with others.  Most often, Michael shares his success and advice via interviews with some prolific entrepreneurs in their respective fields.  The quality of the interviews speaks volumes about the quality of the information and advice that Michael hands out every few days for free.  Althought Retire at 21 is mainly geared for the online entrepreneur or blogger, there are still plenty of principles that are completely applicable to most any other entrepreneurial project you may be starting up.  (Retire at 21 also has a pretty cool forum – check it all out!)

TheUniversityKid.comOnce again, the young entrepreneur advice is more geared toward the young people who desire to make their money on the internet, and once again the advice takes the format of a blog.  Jason is a university student who has perfected the art of website flipping and is well known for a few IM guides and eBooks.  He is beginning to get a bit more into ofline entrepreneurship with dropshipping, wholesaling, and a possible “brick and mortar” type store.  Jason’s knowledge and record of success make him a resource worth checking out.

YoungEntrepreneur.comYoungEntrepreneur.com is a PartnerUp sponosored forum for young entrepreneurs.  YEs can bounce ideas back and forth with eachother, or post success stories.  There is also a decent sized contingent of older and more seasoned entrepreneurs who can offer good advice and guidance to the up and coming generation.  In addition to idea sharing and generation, YoungEntrepreneur also allows users to network and collaborate with eachother – which should result in stronger businesses and projects.

Young MillionairesEntrepreneur magazine’s list of young millionaires offers a great platform for aspring entreprenerus to learn about what other YEs have done.  Entrepreneur.com also offers the whole gamut of ideas, articles, and other links and resrouces.  They should manage to keep you busy for at least a day.

Teen Entrepreneur – Teen Entrepreneur is an online subdivision of Entrepreneur.com, and is a perfect follow up to Entrepreneur’s list of young millionaires.  The extensive lists of start-up ideas, articles, opportunities, and Q & A section should provide some excellent guidance andto help the young entrepreneur get things going.

PartnerUp.com -PartnerUp is not a resource specifically geared toward Young Entrepreneurs, but it does allow young entrepreneurs to see and possible get involved in current projects.  PartnerUp is a sort of social networking platform which allows existing businesses and startups to find funders, board members, and management.  PartnerUp also lets users connect and collaborate to form new startups.  Of significant value is the local search tool – making it possible for users to find local projects and businesses to get involved in.

YoungBiz.com – Specifically geared towards kids and teens, YoungBiz offers success stories of current kid and teen entrepreneurs, business ideas, newsletters, and other articles to help the kids succeed.

YE Survival KitInc. Magazine published a Young Entrepremeur Survival Kit containing stories and examples of young entrepreneurs.  Inc. dubbed their survival kit “a crash course in developing entrepreneurial savvy while juggling the demands of school”. Not too far off…

YSN – YSN stands for “Your Success Network” and is hyped to be the primary social network for the young and successful.  (Think LinkedIn for college and grad students).  They are less entrepreneurship focused, yet still offer a few resources and pieces of advice for the young startupist.

YoungMoney – If you tend to me more of a information hound, Young Money has an extensive offering of articles containing ideas, advice, and other counsel for the young entrepreneur.

Hey Techsplosive! This is my first visit to your good lookin’ site! This is a great list of resources for young entrepreneurs. I frequent many of the sites on this list and have found them insightful.

Especially Retire@21. One of Michael’s other sites that I admire is incomediary.com.
