Sony OLED Walkman, iPod’s Formidable Foe?

by Techsplosive on May 5, 2009

…I wouldn’t count on it just yet, although the Sony OLED Walkman is a super-sweet piece of tech. Back in the early days of techsplosive.com I whipped up a little post for the Sony OLED TV and told you all just how awesome it was and how perfectly detailed the picture would be.  The OLED was made so that your eyes would stay glued to it.  Sony struck again by bringing their super-hot OLED technology to their “walkman” (Sony’s line of portable music devices…a.k.a. mp3 players?)

The design of the OLED Walkman is naturally strikingly similar to that of the iPod Touch, but with a few key upgrades.  The device sports a powerful sort of “hi-def” screen for such a small package.  The Walkman is hands on with a classy touchscreen and relatively simple navigation menu.  Capabilities include music playback, radio access, digital recording, video playback, and wi-fi internet navigation.

Currently this fine piece of engineering is only available on the island of Japan, and no U.S. release date has been officially set.  While it is something to look forward to for those who have declared themselves eternally abstinent from the world of Apple products, the overall effect of the Sony OLED Walkman should create at least a ripple if not a small splash, but certainly nothing catastrophic.

Some other interesting stuff...
