TechSplode Your Summer: Twitter Apps for the Vacationer.

by Techsplosive on June 30, 2009

TechSplode Your Summer! is a series of posts about how to maximize your summer activities through the usage of technology.

Getting away from the daily grind is always a blast, but when the daily grind includes a healthy dose of twitter it maybe a bit easier said than done.

Pre-Tweet. If you would prefer to spend your vacation twitter-free, but still keep up appearances there to let your followers know that you haven’t dropped off of the face of the earth, then a couple of twitter apps named FutureTweets, TweetLater, and HootSuite might be able to help you out.  With these three twitter apps, you can type up your tweets and schedule them for the exact day, hour, and minute you want them to be released into your twitter stream.

Tweet On-the-Go. If you can’t bear the thought of dropping twitter cold turkey over your vacation time then you may want to check into some different mobile apps if you haven’t already.  The easiest way to tweet-on-the-go is to send in your tweets directly to twitter via a text message.  If you are a smartphone user, then apps like Tweetie (iPhone), TwitterBerry (BlackBerry), and a few others will come in handy as you tweet and follow the streams of others.

Share the Vacation Pics. If you are a twitter “power user” and like to share photos in addition to your regular twitter streamed commentary there are a few different apps that you can use to show off your vacation photos and vids.  TwitterPic gives you the flexibility to share pictures on the go directly from your phone or computer.  yFrog, from ImageShack, also gives users the opportunity to share photos and even videos.  If you are going to use yFrog to tweet from your mobile phone, having an iPhone may make the process much easier.

Have fun, and safe tweeting!
